How to root Sprint Epic Touch 4G


Today we will discuss how to root Sprint Epic Touch 4G, which is basically a Samsung manufactured Android phone. The device is also available in the market as Samsung SPH-D710 and Samsung Within. It is a CDMA-based smart phone with a 4.5-inch super Amoled plus display. The device comes with a dual core 1.2GHz processor along with 16GB of internal storage and 1 GB of Ram. It also features micro SD which can support up to 32GB of external memory. It supports DLNA, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, WiMax and Wi-Fi hotspot technologies.

The smart phone ahs a handy 8 MP camera of 3264x2448 pixels and capable of LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and image stabilization. It is shipped with Android v2.3.4 also known as Gingerbread.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Step 1: Download Samsung Kies and install it. Samsung Kies is a software application that is used to communicate between Samsung devices. The software can be downloaded from the Samsung Global Download Center or the individual phone support pages.

Step 2: Enable "USB Debugging". Path for USB debugging is Menu>Settings>Applications>Development.

Step 3: Also enable "Unknown Sources" from the following path: Menu>Settings>Applications

Step 4: Download the root package from the link here to the computer.

Step 5: Now extract the contents of the ZIP file. Make sure one of the file within the extracted one is SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel.tar and odin3 v1.85.exe.

Step 6: Now switch off your device and boot it into download mode. The download mode can be achieved by simultaneously pressing and holding the Power and Volume Down keys until a warning message comes on the screen.

Step 7: Once the warning signal comes release both buttons and press the Volume Up button to continue.

Step 8: Now in your PC, double click the odin3 v1.85.exe file to launch Odin3.

Step 9: After odin3 is launched connect USB cable to the mobile and then connect to PC. If the corrects drivers are installed in your system, you will see the Added message in left lower corner of Odin window.

Step 10: In Odin3, please click on PDA and navigate to the location where the extracted files of the ZIP folder were saved.

Step 11: Now choose the SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel.tar file

Step 12: After selecting the file hit Odin3’s start button to begin flashing the file. Wait for the flashing to finish. Once the flashing is over, the device will automatically reboot.

After reboot you will have a rooted Sprint Epic Touch 4G mobile.
