How to root and update Samsung Transform

Korean electronics major Samsung is one of the leading player in the smart phone market. In October 2010 the company launched the Samsung Transform, which is also known as Samsung SPH-M920.

The smart phone was originally launched with Android 2.1 (Eclair) but later Samsung released updated devices with Android 2.2.2 in March 2011. It was perhaps the first devices equipped with carrier Sprint's "Sprint ID" user interface. The device can be considered as a mid-range smart phone and believed successor to the previously launched Samsung Intercept.  The device features a faster EVDO Rev. A for fast data download and upload; a large 3.5" touch screen; a slide out qwerty keyboard; and a VGA camera in the front for video calling.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Step 1: Download Samsung Kies and install it. Samsung Kies is a software application that is used to communicate between Samsung devices. The software can be downloaded from the Samsung Global Download Center or the individual phone support pages.

Step 3: Enable "USB Debugging". Path for USB debugging is Menu>Settings>Applications>Development.

Step 4: Also enable "Unknown Sources" from the following path: Menu>Settings>Applications

Step 5: Download the z4root apk either from the Google Play store or from the link here.

Step 6: Now connect the mobile to the PC using USB data cable and copy the z4root apk file to the phone.

Step 7: After saving the file to the phone disconnect it from the PC.

Step 8: Using any file manager tool, select the APK file and install the z4root app.
