How to root HTC MyTouch 4G Slide


Today we will discuss how to root HTC MyTouch 4G Slide, which is a touch screen smart phone with slide out keypad. The device is the fourth model in the My touch family. This smart phone includes HTC Espresso 3.0, which is similar to HTC Sense 3.0. During development stages the phone was known as the HTC Doubleshot.

The smart phone’s features a 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor, RAM of 768MB, and has a microSD which supports up to a 32 GB data. The device is shipped with an 8 GB card. The phone has a 3.7’’ WVGA Super LCD touch screen with multi-touch display. The smart phone features a rear facing 8MP camera with dual flash, which can record videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Also make sure that ADB with fastboot is already installed. We have discussed about this in the previous posts.

Step 1: First download and install the HTC Sync Drivers to the computer from the link here. These are also available on the CD you get with your device.

Step 2: Now on the smart phone, turn on the “USB Debugging” option. To do that select Menu > Settings > Applications> Development, then check off USB Debugging.

Step 3: Now connect the phone to the computer using the USB Data Cable. Here, make sure to select the “charge only” option and then click “Done”.

Step 4: Now download the Revolutionary tool (Windows version) to the PC from the following website: (http://revolutionary.io/ ) (it is listed in the first page only, just scroll down to see it). Make sure to keep the browser windows open.

Step 5: Now extract the contents of the zip file to a new folder on your PC.

Step 6: After extraction, open the Revolutionary folder and then right-click on the ‘revolutionary.exe’ file in the folder. Now select the ‘Run as Administrator’ option to run the application.

Step 7: Make a note of the serial number provided by the app at the time of starting up.

Step 8: Now plug in the serial number to the Revolutionary site, the browser of which was kept open in Step 4.  Also enter the HBoot and other required information as well.

Step 9: After you have successfully entered all the data, it will ask, weather you want to flash Clockwork. Simply type ‘Y’ to confirm.

Step 10:            After this process is completed, reboot the smart phone.

Step 11:            Now download Super User app and CWM Image from here. Also copy these files to the root of the phone’s microSD Card.

Step 12:            Now unplug the USB data cable of the phone and turn it off.

Step 13:            Now hold the “Volume Down” key and also press the Power button. You will see HBoot start up.

Step 14:            Using the “Volume Down” button, scroll to the “RECOVERY” option.

Step 15:            Here press the Power key to select the option and also enter ClockworkMod recovery mode.

Step 16:            Subsequently select “Install zip from sd card” option from the options given in the screen.

Step 17:            Later select the “Choose zip from sd card” option and select “su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip”. Now select the “Yes – install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip” option to confirm.

Step 18:            When installation is finished, go to the main menu and click the reboot option.

Once finished, you will have a rooted HTC MyTouch 4G Slide.

    Quick question - will rooting the phone affect the camera's ability to take shots?

    I enjoy using the various modes on the stock software (panoramic, burst, Hidef, etc) and wonder if i'll lose the ability to shoot in those settings if i root my phone.
