How to root HTC Hero

Today we will discuss how to root HTC Hero, which is also known as T-Mobile G2 Touch in the UK and Era G2 Touch in Poland, is the third smart phone launched by HTC Corporation running the Android OS. The Smart phone was launched in June 2009 in London and was subsequently launched in Europe during the next month and in the US in October 2009.

 The device features the HTC Sense user interface, a 3.5 mm audio jack, multi touch facility and also a version of Adobe Flash. The phone is available on 3, Orange, BT Broadband Anywhere (MVNO) and T-Mobile in the UK. The SIM-free version is also available across the UK. HTC has released upgrades to the mobile’s Android OS in the first half of 2010. This will upgrade Hero’s Android OS to version 2.1.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Step 1:  First download the AndRoot software from here and save it to the PC.

Step 2: Now connect the smart phone with the PC using the USB cable. Also mount the SDcard to transfer files to it.

Step 3: After connecting the smart phone, copy the Universal Androot .apk file from the downloaded files to the root directory of the SDcard (Make sure to save it in the root directory, not in any of the subfolders).

Step 4: Now unplug the smart phone.

Step 5: Now use any of the file managers on the phone to navigate to the Universal Androot .apk file. Select the file to install it.

Step 6: After installing it, open Androot and click on the Root option and simply follow all the on screen instructions.

Step 7: Wait for the application to complete the rooting process once done. After the process is over you will have root access.

Reboot the smart phone after rooting. Congratulations you will have a rooted HTC Hero smart phone.
