How to root Samsung Captivate Glide


Samsung is the leading player in the global mobile market. In the smart phone sector the company is the number one player competing with iPhone, BlackBerry and other Android players in the market. Samsung also sells smart phones based on its proprietary OS named Bada.

Today we will discuss how to root Samsung Captivate Glide, which was launched in October 2011. It is also branded as Samsung Galaxy S Glide, Samsung I927 Galaxy S II, Samsung Gidim for AT&T customers. The device runs on Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread). Major features of the phone include:

Network supported: 2G Network (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) 3G Network (HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100). Body dimensions: 124 x 64 x 13 mm
Weight: 147 g
Keyboard: QWERTY with touch-sensitive controls
Display:  480 x 800 pixels super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and (~233 ppi pixel density)

Memory: 1 GB RAM, 1 GB ROM, 8 GB internal storage with microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB. It has a standard Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery with up to 396h of stand-by and 8h of talk time.

Connectivity options: GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA (21 Mbps), HSUPA (5.76 Mbps), WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot), Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP. Also supports NFC (Near Field Communication) and microUSB v2.0.

Camera: 8MP primary camera with 3264x2448 pixels, autofocus and LED flash. Other features include Geo-tagging, touch focus and face&smile detection. It also supports 720p@30fps video formats and comes equipped with a 1.3MP secondary camera.

Battery            

Before we start, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Instructions:

Step 1: Download the Odin 1.85

Step 2: Download the CarrierIQ free kernel (zip file).

Step 3: Unzip the file and keep the .tar, which is the file you are going to push to your device

Step 4: Keep your phone in Download Mode: by doing the following

·         Turn off the phone
·         Press volume UP and simultaneously press the power button, a screen will ask you weather “do you want to continue” press the volume up key to confirm

Step 5: Launch Odin and in PDA, select the first kernel downloaded (tar file you just unzipped)

Step 6: Press the start button and wait for your phone to reboot

Step 7: This kernel will remove all traces of CarrierIQ, which will make your device free from AT&T Spyware. If this flashing fails, try the exact same steps with the insecure kernel.

Step 8: Reboot your device into download mode again (Same as step 4 above)

Step 9: Flash the rooted ROM

To check rooting is done, go to the Google Play store and make sure you have the latest version of super-user. Go to super-user, check you have "SU" updated.
