How to root the Google Nexus S in One Click


Google’s Android OS is used by a number of OEM’s (Original equipment manufacturers). The OS is used by a number of OEM’s (Original equipment manufacturers). Even though Android is open source OS, it is shipped in locked version where the buyer only gets “guest access”, which limits the user’s control over the device. For example, the owner is powerless to remove pre installed apps. Rooting gives super user access to the owner, allowing complete control of the device by the user. 

The Nexus S was co-developed by Google and Samsung. It was the first smart-phone to use the Android 2.3 OS, also called the "Gingerbread", and the first Android device to support NFC, (Near Field Communication). Google worked with Samsung for this device unlike HTC for the first two devices, including Google G1 and the Nexus One. Galaxy Nexus, its successor was released in 2011. Google released Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 for the Nexus S smart phone in March 2012.

Today we will discuss how to root Google Nexus S (both GSM and 4G variants). Before we start, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

 
Step 1: Download the One Click Root for Nexus S / Nexus S 4G package file from here and save it to your desktop.

Step 2: Extract the contents of the ZIP file without modifying or renaming any of the contents of the file.

Step 3: Install the USB drivers for your Nexus S. The driver installers are within the extracted files. If you have a 64-bit Windows, run the file called PDANetA300x64.exe. If you have a 32-bit Windows, use the PDANetA300.exe.

Step 4: During the installation, when prompted by the popup, choose Samsung and say yes to any pop-up to start installing the Nexus S 4G / Nexus S drivers on your PC.

Step 5: Enable "USB Debugging". Path for USB debugging is Menu>Settings>Applications>Development.

Step 6: Also enable "Unknown Sources" from the following path: Menu>Settings>Applications

Step 7: Connect USB cable to the mobile and then connect to PC

Step 8: Connect your Google Nexus S 4G / Nexus S to your computer via USB cable. Un-mount the SD card before you connect the device to PC.

Step 9: Launch the run.bat application as administrator using right-click and selecting “Run as Administrator”. Once the application starts to run, simply follow the onscreen instructions to start rooting your Nexus S 4G / Nexus S.

Now you have a rooted Nexus S.

After the rooting program has finished, check whether your device is successfully rooted by installing the Root Checker or Superuser app available from the Google Play Android app Market.
