How to root Google Nexus One


Today we will discuss how to root Google Nexus One, which is also known as HTC Passion is Google's flagship smart phone manufactured by Taiwan-based HTC Corporation. The device was first launched in January 5, 2010 and was the first Google device to run Android open source mobile operating system.

Some of the key features of the phone include Quad-band GSM with dual-band 3G support, support for 2 Mbps HSUPA and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.  The device has a 3.7" 16 million-color capacitive Amoled touch screen having 480x 800 pixel resolution. The smart phone runs on Android 2.1 and provides kinetic scrolling, pinch zooming facilities and Trackball navigation.

The smart phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1GHz processor and comes with 512 MB of RAM and a 512 MB of ROM. The device has a 5 Mega pixel autofocus camera with LED flash and geo-tagging facilities. It can also do video recording at a speed of 24fps at 720 x 480 pixels. The smart phone supports GPS, stereo Bluetooth v2.1 and Wi-Fi communication. The device comes with a microSD slot which can support up to 32 GB of external storage. Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Step 1: Firstly download the UniversalAndroot.zip file from the location here.

Step 2: After downloading the file, extract the contents of the file to a location in the desktop.

Step 3: Now connect the Nexus One smart phone to the computer via USB data cable and mount the SD card of your device.

Step 4: After mounting the SD card, copy the extracted APK file to the device’s memory card.

Step 5: Now use any file managers in the device and double click the .apk file to install it.

Step 6: After installation, run the Universal Android Root application and simply follow the onscreen instructions to root the Nexus One smart phone.

Wait for the application to complete the rooting process once done, you will have a rooted Nexus One smart phone.
