Today we will discuss how to root HTC Jetstream tablet, which is one of the most expensive tablets by the company. The HTC Jetstream tablet is a 10 inch Android-based tablet having a Qualcomm MSM8660 1.5 Ghz dual core processor. The device is quite expensive at $700 when attached to AT&T Wireless.

It has a LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colors and multi touch feature. It has an 8 mega pixel rear camera, with dual-LED flash, Geo-tagging and autofocus facility. It can take videos of 1080p clarity. The HTC Jetstream tablet also includes a secondary 1.3 mega pixel camera for video chatting. Its Li-Ion 7300 mAh standard battery has a stand-by time of up to 900 hours and a talk time of up to 12 hours.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Also make sure that ADB with fastboot is already installed. We have discussed about this in the previous posts.

Step 1: Firstly, download the kernel from the link here and root toolkit from the link here.

Step 2: After download, extract the contents of the toolkit to a location of your choice.

Step 3: Now rename the kernel’s name to insecure.

Step 4: Connect the tablet to the PC and make sure USB debugging is enabled. Use the following path: Menu>Settings>Applications>Development.

Step 5: Also enable "Unknown Sources" from this path: Menu>Settings>Applications

Step 6: Reboot the tablet in fastboot mode by using the command prompt. Enter the following commands in the command prompt of the PC:

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot insecure.img

Step 7: After the device has booted up, please run the RUNME.bat file from the toolkit earlier extracted.

Step 8: That’s it, wait for the process to complete. Once the device reboots, you will have permanently rooted your tablet.

Once finished, you will have a rooted HTC Jetstream.
