How to root HTC Inspire


Today we will discuss how to root HTC MyTouch 4G, which is also known as the T-Mobile myTouch 4G. The phone was launched in Canada as HTC Panache 4G. The smart phone was designed and manufactured by HTC Corporation for T-Mobile USA's myTouch branded series of mobiles. HTC had initially codenamed it as the Glacier during the development stages. This is also T-Mobile's second 4G enabled phone after the previously launched T-Mobile G2. It is also the third smart phone of T-Mobile which runs Android 2.2, Froyo. The phone was available in three colours, including black, red and white.

The HTC myTouch 4G mobile supports 3G UMTS, Wi-Fi, EDGE and GPRS networks. The smart phone also supports Wi-Fi calling and runs on a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon with 768 MB of RAM. The smart phone has a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus and flash. The camera can also capture 720p HD-quality videos. The device also includes a front facing camera for video chats and calls. The HTC myTouch 4G comes with a lithium-ion battery having a talk time of up to 10 hours and standby time of 18 days.

Before we start rooting, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to get data back in case of problems.

Step 1: In order to root the device we must first do temporary root on the device, using the VISIONAry One Click root app. Download the file from the link here. You can also download the app from Google Play store.

Step 2: The app will look like a yellow triangle in your app list. Now select the app to run and simply follow the onscreen instructions to get temporary root access.  

Step 3: After gaining temporary root, download the following files from the link here.

Step 4: Make sure that ADB is installed. You can refer one of previous postings for details.
 
Step 5: Launch the Command Prompt type the following commands exactly in the same order.
        adb push wpx.ko /data/local
        adb push hboot_dhd.nb0 /data/local

Step 6: Now open the terminal on the mobile and type SU + and follow it by an enter command to gain root access.

Step 7: Once done, please type insmod /data/local/wpx.ko and press enter. After entering, you will get an error message “Function Not Implemented”, don’t eorry it is ok.

Step 8: Type dd if=/data/local/hboot_dhd.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 and press enter. Please make sure to write it exactly as is seen here.

Step 9: As the command is over, exit from the terminal.

Step 10: Now launch VISIONary app on the mobile again and re-root. Also select the “Run on Boot” option to lock the root.

Step 11: Exit VISIONary app and launch the terminal on the mobile again. Please type “Sync” and press enter.

That’s it wait for a few minutes and then reboot the device. After reboot you will have a rooted HTC MyTouch 4G smart phone.
