Globally,
Android holds 49.2% market share compared to 18.9% held by iOS. It is
estimated that, Android OS will capture a global market share of 48.8% by
2015, compared to 17.2% held by iOS. The OS is used by a number of OEM’s
(Original equipment manufacturers). Even though Android is open source OS, it
is shipped in locked version where the buyer only gets “guest access”, which
limits the user’s control over the device. For example, the owner is
powerless to remove pre installed apps. Rooting gives super user access to
the owner, allowing complete control of the device by the user.
Today
we will discuss how to root Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. The device is an
Android-based tablet computer produced by launched in September 2010. The
Galaxy Tab has a 7-inch (180 mm) TFT-LCD touchscreen, 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 (Hummingbird)
processor, Wi-Fi capability, Swype input system, a primary 3.2 MP rear-facing
camera and another 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video calls. It runs the
Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and supports telephone functionality as
speaker phone, through wired ear piece or Bluetooth earpieces.
Before
we start, DISCLAIMER: Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below
mentioned method may be a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device
is damaged or you lose data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at
your own risk.
Make
sure that the battery is fully charged, because if the battery drains totally
during the rooting process, bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup
of the device data such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media
files in order to get data back in case of problems.
Step
1: Make sure that you have the drivers for the Tab installed on your
computer. The drivers can be downloaded from the support site of Samsung.
Step
2: Download SuperOneClick.
Step 3: Disconnect your Tab from the PC, and
Enable "USB Debugging". Path for USB debugging is Menu>Settings>Applications>Development.
Step
4: Also enable "Unknown Sources" from the following path: Menu>Settings>Applications
Step
5: Connect the Tab to your PC and launch SuperOneClick.
Step
6: When SuperOneClick sees your Tab, just click the Root button.
Step
7: Now SuperOneClick will root the tablet and then install both Superuser and
Busybox tools, which are needed by the device to complete its untethered root.
Step
8: When SuperOneClick completes, reboot your Tab.
After
reboot, you will have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. Now you can make use of
applications which require root access.
