The Motorola Atrix 4G was
initially launched with AT&T Wireless in the US, Orange in the UK, Bell
Canada in Canada and Telstra in Australia. The device won the CNET Best at
CES 2011 in the Smartphone category. It also won nine awards at CES 2011.
Before we start, DISCLAIMER:
Rooting may void the device’s warranty and the below mentioned method may be
a bit risky and we are not responsible if the device is damaged or you lose
data, therefore it is advisable to please proceed at your own risk.
Make sure that the battery is
fully charged, if the battery drains totally during the rooting process,
bricking may happen. Also make sure to create a backup of the device data
such as SMS, internet settings, contacts and other media files in order to
get data back in case of problems.
Step 1: Make sure to install
Motorola drivers for Windows. If you have not installed them please download
them from the link here and install them on the PC.
Step 2: Also make sure that
you have a fully charged smart phone.
Step 3: Please enable USB Debugging
by navigating from the following path: Settings > Applications >
Development and then check USB Debugging.
Step 5: After downloading the
zip files extract its contents to the following location c:atrix-4g-root on
the PC. If you don’t have the path, please create using the command prompt.
Step 6: Now switch off the
phone completely.
Step 7: After switching off
connect the smart phone to y\the computer using the USB data cable.
Step 8: Now reboot the smart
phone in Fastboot mode by holding the “Volume Down” button while also holding
the Power button till the Fastboot screen comes.
Step 9: after you see the
screen, press the “Volume Up” key. You will now see the “Starting Fastboot
protocol support” screen.
Step 10: Now open the command
prompt on the PC and enter the following commands:
cd c:atrix-4g-root
moto-fastboot.exe flash
preinstall preinstall.img
moto-fastboot.exe reboot
adb shell
/preinstall/dosu (NOTE: If this command doesn’t work, try
/preinstall/su instead.)
/bin/mount-0 remount,rw
/system
cp /preinstall/su
/system/bin/
chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
PATH=/system/bin:$PATH pm install
/preinstall/Superuser.apk
Step 11: Now reboot the
phone. Post reboot, you will have permanent rooted Motorola Atrix mobile.
Note: Please enter the
commands exactly in the same way and in the same order.
