Taiwanese computer maker ASUS has revealed very little about
its lineup at Computex 2012. ASUS Transformer AiO is the only unofficially announced
item in the lineup. The device has a dual OS device that is capable of running
both the Android and Windows OS. The Transformer AiO is an 18.4-inch desktop
that runs both the operating systems.
Unlike previously launched Android and ARM based Viewsonic
desktop, this device has Windows 8 and boots with windows 8 only. The Android
interface is started only after the press of a button. Apart from dual OS’ the
device has dual form factors and can be used as a traditional all-in-one desktop.
It can also be detached from the base to be used like a wireless display, say a
big tablet.
Another big announcement at the event was the partnership
between ASUS and BlueStacks. This partnership enables Asus to make its devices
more Android-friendly. Through this partnership ASUS plans to install the BlueStacks
application on all its devices making them compatible with Android apps. ASUS
has already announced plans to make Android apps available on more than 30
million Windows computers globally.
As part of the plan Asus will embed the BlueStacks platform in its
asus@vibe entertainment platform, whic is shipped by default on all ASUS computers.
ASUS will provide all the Android apps for free for the first six months and
then charge a subscription from the sixth month onwards. Even without subscription
the user will be able to access 50 odd Android apps.
All the old ASUS computers will get the BlueStacks platform
in the first week of June 4, after the platform is made available in asus@vibe.
